It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our dear brother, uncle, and friend Allan Newton in his 85th year on July 2, 2018 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Allan was born in Big Interval to parents Richard and Marion Newton. He spent the majority of his life in Chimney Corner and was educated there in the local one-room school house. Upon graduation he hit the roads as a coal truck driver for Evans Coal Mine. He did this job for 35 years. Allan liked automobiles and was known at one time as always having the latest new car from the Midway Motors lot. He still enjoyed driving a car up until two years ago. He was always willing to give family and friends drives both near and far. Allan was an old-time country music fan and loved listening to his favorites such as Johnny Cash and Wilf Carter. Having a strong faith, Allan enjoyed watching Christian programs such as Billy Graham and Andrew Wommack. He was predeceased by parents, Richard and Marion; sisters, Sarah Macaulay (Murray), Ellen Cameron (John), Clara Evans (Dean), Mary MacKay (Dan), and brother, David. He is survived by his sister, Emma Mackay, (Lybison); many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Inverness Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Friday, July 6th from 1-1:45 p.m. in St. Mathews church in Inverness with Pastor Maggie Plant celebrating. Funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Following the service there will be a lunch at the Inverness Fire Hall (all are welcome). Donations can be made to the Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
