Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Jean (Jean) Duhn (née Lund) of Rocky View County, Alberta. Jean passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home on March 27, 2018 at the age of 84 years.
She was the loving mother of Rosalund (Bruce) Johnson of Airdrie; Rhonda (Steve) Calon of Calgary; Randall (Linda) Duhn of Rocky View County; Deanna (Jim) Forrest of Airdrie; Teresa (Albert) Anderson of Rocky View County; Crystal (Ray) Palin of Rocky View County; and Glenn (Jenn) Duhn of Delacour. She will also be greatly missed by her twenty-one grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ed (Rita) Duhn of Calgary; and only brother Ken Lund and family, Wendy and Chris Lund, all of Bolton, Ontario.
Jean was predeceased by her husband of nearly sixty years, Robert Larsen Duhn; her parents, Andy and Mary Lund; grandchildren Alana Johnson and Garrett Duhn; sister-in-law Connie Lund; nephew Erny Lund; brother-in-law Earl Duhn and his wife Marylin.
Born and raised in Airdrie, Alberta, Jean was an artistic child who developed a life-long love of crafting, calligraphy and drawing. She became a teacher before marrying Robert Larsen Duhn, after which they farmed and raised a family of seven, first in the Chestermere area and for many years in Delacour. Jean spent her last years living in the Butte Hills area of Rocky View County near Balzac, Alberta where she enjoyed the frequent company of family and friends. She loved to host craft days and get-togethers, the highlight of which were her summer Canada Day parties. A welcoming and gracious hostess; you could always count on a good cup of coffee and a bite to eat whenever you visited her. She greatly enjoyed entertaining her guests with stories of the adventures (and miss-adventures) of farm life. But, aside from her family, she was most proud of her time as a teacher at Glen Rock School, frequently sharing anecdotes of her time there and her students, some of whom she remained in contact with throughout her life. And when the visit was over, her parting phrase was typically, “Don’t be a stranger!” We think of her now getting reacquainted with those that have gone before, and giving Robert a hard time over a good game of Canasta.
A Funeral Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, (Prairie View Chapel, 1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Stars Air Ambulance Service, the Mustard Seed of Calgary, or the Airdrie Community Links program, 211 – 125 Main St. NW, Airdrie, Alberta T4B 0P7.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Alice Jean Duhn 2018.source
