Alice Jane Brophy
Brophy, Alice Jane, 92, of
Antigonish passed away on July 10, 2018, in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing
Born in Glencoe, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and
Nellie (Quirk) Farrell.
In her early years, Alice worked for Wilkie &
Cunningham in Antigonish and the StFX Bookstore. A loving
mother and grandmother, she loved cards, bingo, dancing, and sewing,
and she had knitted many wool socks over the years. Prior to
his passing, Alice had also cared for her husband, Martin, for 6 years
before he went to a nursing home.
She is survived by sons, Finley (Vivian) and Shawn (Maria),
both of Antigonish; daughters, Annette (Joe) Hanifen, Erinville;
Margie (Eddie) MacDonald, Heatherton; Heather (Cornelius) Van den
Heuval, Upper South River; Trudy (John) Bowman, Afton; Donna Brophy
(Archie Tate), Dunmore; 24 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren;
brothers, Clarence (Mary Kate), Lanark; Gus (Maureen), Floyd (Patsy),
and Hughie (Colleen), all of Antigonish; sisters-in-law, Marge
Farrell, Antigonish; Florence Farrell, St. Andrews; and Joni Bradbury,
Edmonton; brother-in-law, Huntley Brophy; South Side Harbour; and many
nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Martin; brothers Greg
(Helen), Doug (Mary), James (Kay), Art, Lewis, Joe Day, and baby
Finley; sisters, Lydia Vincent (Joe) and Marcella Farrell (James);
sisters in law, Helen Brophy and Louise Fraser; special children,
Patrick and Bonnie O’Hearn; nieces, Debbie Brophy and
Beverley Rennie, and nephew, Bobby Farrell.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 7 to 9pm and Friday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday in
St. Ninian Cathedral at 11:00am, Reverend Donald MacGillivray
presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
