OBITUARY
Alice Eleanor Dodd
April 26, 1926 – December 10, 2018
Alice Eleanor of Calgary passed away peacefully December 10, 2018 at the age 92 years surrounded by her family.
Alice was born in Crossfield Alberta on April 26, 1926, the youngest child of Margureeta Hall (McCool) and Douglass Hall.
She married the love of her life, Cecil Dodd on March 26, 1951. She joins him now in eternity, and it comforts us to believe they are together again.
Alice was a school teacher for many years. According to her sister, she used to make her cousins sit in desks and play school when they came over to visit. She touched the lives of many children with her passion for teaching. Teaching was not just a job, but truly a vocation for Alice and she was widely admired among colleagues and students.
Alice was a very creative person. She was an excellent seamstress (she made actual suits for Ken and dresses for Barbie!) and made countless outfits for her children as they grew up. She also knit, crocheted, decoupaged, and did every craft you can think of. She tirelessly made items to sell for Christmas fairs, and created very special stockings and scrapbooks for all her grandchildren.
Alice was a member of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church and she was very involved as a volunteer in the church. She loved to help others, and was especially involved in the new immigrant program.
What was most important to her was her family. She was the best mother, grandmother and great grandmother one could imagine. She helped us, taught us, cared for us, worried about us and loved us always.
Alice loved a good game of crib, the bright, sunny Alberta sky and her sewing machine. Canaries? Not so much.
She had a long and happy life, and she will be missed very much.
She is survived by her four children, Janet Pittis (Gino), Gail Dodd Borgatta (Frederic), Kathy Dodd and Bill Dodd (Ann); She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Cecil (Dutch) Dodd, her sister Cora Flynn and her brother Warren Hall.
Alice suffered from Parkinson’s Disease in her later years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Association of Alberta.
