Alan passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital after a few months of being hospitalized with pancreatitis. We are grateful that he is no longer in pain and is now at peace. Alan is survived by his dear friend and former wife of 20 years, Pamela (Poole) Lyken; his daughter, Nicola Storey (Scott) in the U.K; grandchildren, Stevie, Zachary and Caitlyn. He was predeceased by his son, Kelly Poole; and granddaughter Natalie. His canine companions Zoey and Chelsea are now with Pamela. Alan (Al) (Sid) will be fondly remembered by his film industry peers; longtime friend, Bill Kelly; the Lyken family; and many others for his great sense of humour, wit, and congeniality. Alan was a creative man, with a love for music, comedy, movies, football (soccer), cooking, and woodworking. Alan told it like it was and penned many ‘Letters to the Editor’, often being published. In 2003 his letter was chosen as one of the best of the year. At 15 Alan started his varied career as a plumber’s apprentice. 18 years later, David Watkins, SPFX technician offered him a job on ‘Star Wars – Empire Strikes Back’. He travelled the world, working with the best in the biz, on many Academy award-nominated films. Go to www.imdb.com to see his film credits. In 1989, he immigrated to Canada. Alan left behind a story he wrote of his musical journey. It all began when his father gave him an accordion at the age of 11, which he reluctantly took up lessons, yet in 2 years had passed two levels at the R.C.A. in London. The ‘squeezebox’ wasn’t the coolest instrument, so he switched to the bass guitar. His band never left the garage! Fast forward to 2002, Alan picked up the harmonica and became an accomplished player. He jammed with many local artists, and the likes of Amos Garrett, Darren Johnson, Steve Pinoe, to name a few. Soon he became a regular with a few bands and is thankful to everyone that gave him a chance, especially Vagabond Blonde. At Alan’s request, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be arranged in the near future & the date posted online.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Alan John Poole October 7th 2018..
