A. Lawrence’s Obituary
MORSE, A. Lawrence ~ Age 95, of Berwick, Kings Co., passed peacefully at home on Thursday, December 27, 2018, surrounded by family. Born on March 31, 1923, eldest son of the late P. Lloyd and Martha (Loomer) Morse. Survived by Alfretta (Palmer) loving and devoted spouse of 60 years; daughters, Heather (Steve Philpott) Ottawa; Sheila (Tim Atwater) Berwick; Dianna, Berwick; and son, Anthony (Linda), Berwick; grandchildren, Emily and Oliver Morse Maddox and their father, Sean Maddox; Brett and Lacey McKenzie; Patrice, Joshua, Johnathan, and Sarah Rheaume; Logan (Hale) and Mallory. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; two brothers, John, Hantsport; Harold (Vivian) Berwick; and sister, Ruth Ann Harris, Berwick. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Best, Helen Morse, and Mary Morse; and brothers, Donald and Gerald Morse. A member of ‘The Greatest Generation’, Lawrence was known for his modesty, humility, and integrity. As a member of the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department he exhibited strength and service to his community. Throughout his life he focused on health and fitness and was a crucial element of the Berwick Tug of War team who won the Nova Scotia provincial championship in 1962, and is commemorated in the Berwick Sports Hall of Fame. His life and work as a family farmer was full of purpose and meaning; his experience and knowledge about the land, crops, machinery, weather and animals was rivaled by few. If he did not know how to do something, he learned how. No job was too big or too small. He was always willing to lend a hand. He was an avid reader and had a passion for history. He was a wonderful father, a positive role model for his children and grandchildren, and a caring husband. He was a lover of animals and was most content outdoors. A man of few words, he was an observer of the human condition, whose insight was often sought and admired. He left an indelible impact on those who knew him. He will be remembered for his compassion, kindness, generosity, and dry wit. Cremation has taken place; a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to “Carry Me” Fund – Supporting Palliative Care in the Home, Victorian Order of Nurses, Annapolis Valley Branch or Canadian Red Cross Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
