Age 75 of Halifax died suddenly on Christmas Day. Marie was the daughter of the late Edward Ernest Borgal and Myrtle Dorothy (Patterson) Borgal. Marie as she liked to be known, was an eloquent homemaker her home was her pride and joy. Marie was a passionate animal lover she had many pets, cats and dogs over the course of her lifetime. Marie was predeceased by her late husband Kenneth Fiske Orval Mumford her younger brothers Kenneth Borgal and Donald Borgal.
She is survived by her sister, Judith Sharon (Borgal) Belanger (Claude) of Quebec City, sister in law Christina Hilchy (Donald) of Halifax and her daughter, Catherine DeMone (Edwin). Marie is also survived by her grandchildren, Chantal DeMone (Ricky Howard), Christa DeMone (Justin Morse) and Chelsea DeMone (Sterling Cliff) all of Halifax; nephew, John Casey and (Karen Seemen) and a great nephew Johnathan Casey (Tiffany) all of Toronto as well as her nieces Christine Belanger of Germany, and Melanie Belanger of Montreal.
Marie attended Halifax Vocational school and was trained in the trade of Office Accounting, Marie went on to work at Glubes in the accounts department and that employment resulted in Marie meeting her future husband Ken.
Upon the passing of her dear late husband Marie turned to volunteering to bring more richness to her days, Marie was a very kind and caring person to the very core of her being. Marie volunteered at Northwood Community Care in the gift shop and also the Parker Street Food bank, with Mel and fellow volunteers. Marie truly loved to be helping people.
Marie was a cancer survivor after her struggles for some time in and out of remission Marie was admitted into the New Bone Marrow Transplant/Hematology Wing of the Halifax Victorian General Hospital while under the care of Dr. Neville in the early 1990’s Marie’s cancer was totally eradicated for 28 years.
Marie loved to travel, she enjoyed many trips to Quebec City to visit with her Sister Judy and her husband Claude. Marie set out on an adventure to London England with her brother Don, his wife Christina Hilchey, and her Sister Judy where she visited The Coronation Street set and many Beetles Mania sites. This trip, would turn out to be one of her fondest, as she recounted to me her daughter.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the SPCA for Marie’s love of animals.
