Donald Harvey Brown February 15 1928 November 23 2018 (age 90)

On November 23, 2018 Donald Harvey Brown sailed across the River Jordan into his promised land. Don was born on February 15, 1928 in Vancouver to Martin Lawther and Edna Mae (Hearns) Brown. Don graduated from Lord Byng H.S. and went on to get his BSc in Civil Engineering at UBC. He began his 35 year career with CPRail in Montreal in 1954 where he and Shirley Isabel Carmichael were reacquainted as friends. Their friendship blossomed into a life long romance and they were married at First Baptist Church, Vancouver on September 12,1957 and set up home in Montreal. Daughters Heather and Moira were born while living there. Don’s career with CP and his passion for sailing took the family across many provinces and even across oceans. After retirement, Don & Shirley moved to the Comox Valley which was home base for many more years of travel and friendship building. Don leaves behind the love of his life, Shirley; daughter Heather Schmidt(Norm), daughter Moira Proskin (Sam); grandchildren Bryna, Graeme (Kelsey), Cameron (Kelsey Reanne), Rachel; brother Martin (Judy), sister-in-law Edna Mae, nephews and nieces and special friends Marie Pelltier and sons Sean and Derek Lynch who consider Don their role model and “Dad”. A celebration of life will be held at Comox Community Baptist Church on December 1, 2018 at 1:00. Don was greatly loved. In lieu of flowers, donations to Wheels for Wellness, Comox Valley Dragon Boat Society or a charity of your choice will be gratefully accepted.
