Obituary for
Ernie Hykawy
Ernest Charles Hykawy – A family man who’s greatest pride came from time spent with those he loved. Known to all as Ernie, of Grand Cove, the hard working supportive husband of Pat for almost 51 years. Ernie died peacefully in one of his favourite locations in Grand Bend on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 in his 71st year. Together, Ernie and Pat raised their family of Lorna (Lawrence) and Ray (Michelle). Ernie was blessed to encourage, support and watch his children grow and continued to support them into their adulthood. Chennal was her Papa’s greatest joy, always laughing through a meal with his special fork until they had to be separated.
The middle child and son of Alex and Teeny, Ernie was raised on a farm in Manitoba with siblings Allan (Mary Jo), Shirl (John), Charles (Kathy), Michael (Gail) and David. Brother in law to Christine & Ken Wilkes and Uncle to many nieces, nephews and extended family. Missed by many family and friends in Manitoba. Ernie is predeceased by his infant brother Richard. In 1963 Ernie’s family moved to Ontario where he met his beautiful wife Pat. A strong, stubborn, dedicated man with a joke to offer at any time, Ernie worked long hours as a licensed baker, but nothing took precedence over family life. Puttering about with odd jobs, playing horse shoes or playfully teasing his Granddaughter or anyone who visited.
It is with great sadness that Ernie’s family announce his passing. At this time, arrangements are to be decided. Donations are appreciated to the Diabetes Society or to Wildlife Haven Waterloo in Chennal Wiedemann’s name. Ernie took great pride knowing that his Granddaughter volunteered here on a regular basis.
