Winnifred « Winnie » M. Layden
Winnie, age 100, of Monarch Hill, Riverview and formerly of
Moncton, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, October
18, 2017. Born in Hopewell Hill, she was the daughter of the late
James and Hannora (Nora) (Howard) Long.
Winnie was a retired employee of The Moncton Hospital and
attended St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church. At the age of 15
Winnie’s mother passed away, however Winnie went on to graduate
from Riverside Consolidated School. Winnie worked in
Montreal, then at No: 5 and EI in Moncton. Winnie went on to raise her
family with faith, love, generosity and kindness. She worked as a
caregiver to her father and others in Riverside, Rexton and
Richibucto.
Upon moving to Moncton, Winnie began working at the Moncton
City Hospital for 20 years. She described her job there as « I
loved it!! » Winnie was a competitive bridge player and loved to
travel across Canada, the U.S., Great Britain and Europe. She was a
past president of the CWL in Riverside and a life time member. Winnie
was a great wife, mother, grandmother and
friend.
Winnie will be sadly missed by her children, Robert Layden
(Karee) of Salisbury, NB, Betty Layden of Moncton, NB, Dr. Ronald
Layden (Janet) of Lunenburg, NS and beloved grandson Pierre Layden of
Dryden, ON; several nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition
to her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her husband, Warren A.
Layden; brothers, Irving and Walter and sister, Kate.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road,
Moncton (858-1995) on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
Funeral Mass at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic
Church, 340 Dominion St., on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10:30 am,
with Rev. Allison Carroll presiding. Reception in the Parish
Hall following the Mass. Interment at Holy Ghost Catholic Cemetery,
Hopewell Hill, NB.
