Obituary
Wil Monchuk was the consummate salesman. On the first date with his beloved Cathy, he predicted he would propose within the month. They were married for 56 years, the last three sharing the struggles of dementia and Alzheimer’s at Harvest House in Sherwood Park. Along the way, they raised Dennis (Linda) and Judy (Chris). Wil’s valuable life lessons included how to throw a baseball straight, play cutthroat cribbage and handicap horses.
Wil’s laughter and ready smile bid this world farewell July 12. True to their life-long bond, Cathy came looking for him moments after he passed.
Wil served communion at Saint John Paul II’s 1984 Mass and Hall of Famer Billy Martin praised his baseball prowess, but Wil’s proudest moments came recounting family stories. His happiest hours were spent cheering on and bragging about grandchildren Luc, Cassandra, Brandon and Kate. His offbeat sense of humour never failed to brighten the day of people around him. Wil rarely complained, not even when a leg amputation stopped him from mowing the grass every second day.
We want to thank the staff at Harvest house for their love, care and support. You have been a blessing during Wil’s time in your care.
To celebrate Wil’s life, a Funeral Liturgy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South (4820 Meridian Street).
