Obituary of William Stankey
William (Bill) Stankey, longtime resident of Balgonie, SK and recently of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 12, 2017 at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Maureen (Pockrandt) in 2014; his parents, August and Ernestina; and all eight of his older brothers and sisters. Bill is survived by son Gord (Jan) Stankey and grandson Michael; son Doug Stankey; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Bill served in the Canadian Army in Europe in World War II with the 42nd Seaforth Highlanders, and in Korea and Germany with Canadian peacekeepers. He retired with the rank of Corporal after 17 years of military service. The family wishes to extend many thanks and appreciation to the staff of Wascana Hospital Veterans Wing for making Bill part of their family and caring for him in his final years; and special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff of the Veterans Wing for their attention to Bill during his final days. A Celebration of Bill’s life will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Regina Memorial Gardens. Flowers are most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations in memoriam to The Canadian Legion Last Post Fund, National Service Centre, 505 Rene-Levesque Boulevard West, Suite 401, Montreal, Quebec, H2Z 1Y7.
