It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of baseball icon Wilfred “Pit” Roy. On November 18, 2016, Pit lost his extra inning battle with cancer at the age of 74.
Loving husband of 51 years to Aline (St-Croix) and cherished dad to sons Peter, his wife Zellie, and Shawn, his wife Rose. Papa will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Brandan, Chanelle, Eric and Maria and great grandchildren baby Rose, August and Elly.
Predeceased by his parents, Telesphore in 1978 and Elizabeth in 2010. He leaves behind siblings Raymond, Marie- Rose and Jean-Marc. Along with his best buddy Percy.
Pit’s legacy will long be remembered as a baseball icon in the City of Timmins. He helped develop and grow Little League Baseball for 25 years. Pit spent countless hours at the ball fields throughout the city as a manager, coach, umpire, and groundskeeper. But mostly as a friend and mentor to so many kids that passed through LaRonde Little League baseball. He will continue to impact future baseball stars as they play Little League on the field that is named in his and Bert Durepos’ honour in 2009 “The D&R Little League Field” at the M.R.C.A. Park.
This summer as the sun is shining down on the Little League Field and the Hollinger Park, Pit will be watching from above, smiling watching the kids play, and making sure the “guys” at the Hollinger don’t make too many errors. And making sure that the foul lines are straight on his Little League Field.
A mass will be held at Lessard- Stephens Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 23rd at 10:30 am., followed by a luncheon in his honor at “The Social Venue” on 27 Maple in Timmins. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted with Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home. Remembrance donations may be made in his honor to his true passion LaRonde Little League. Online condolences or donation can be made at www.lessradstephens.com
