Walter Henry Connery III – 1940 – 2016

Walter Henry Connery III 1940-2016 It is with great sadness that the family of Walter H. Connery III, age 75, announces his sudden passing at his cottage in Lakeside on Monday, July 18th. Cherished husband and soulmate of Barbara (Rooney) Connery. He was born, raised and made his home in Framingham, MA. The only son of the late Walter Jr. & Mary (Keefe) Connery. Walter was the proud father of nine children: Debora Clifford and husband Richard, Sharon Bryant, Maureen McIntyre and husband John, Walter IV and wife Lisa, John (Jack) and his partner Stephanie Hanna, Michael and his wife Tina, Christopher, Joseph and his partner Nikki Nearing, Peter and his wife Merideth. He also extended his care and support to a few foster children. Scotty Brown had a special place in his heart. Walter’s kind and beautiful grandchildren are: Jake, Rusty, Brittany, Nikki, Brianna, Mikella, Shayne, Kara, Joe, Sean, Ryan, Sammi, Bryan, Megan, Fionn, Maeve and Teague. Walter was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren: Braden, Chloe, Callie, Kayden, Daisy, Teagan, Dylan, Kaleb, Kali, McKenzie, Landon and Camden. He was pre-deceased by a loving step-mother, Barbara A. Connery and step-sister, Cheryl Ozella. His in-laws include Philip and Patricia Rooney, Maureen Rooney, Deborah and William Matthews and the late Aloysius and Marie Rooney. Walter was an uncle to several nieces, nephews and their children. Walter was so loved by so many. Walter was a veteran of the US Navy and retired as a Lieutenant with the Framingham Fire Dept. He was an instructor trainer at the State Firefighting Academy, a safety consultant, special education aide, owner/manager of Connery’s Inn, manager at Fram Elks, and most recently Amvets Post 79. In 2003, he was one of 3 people honored with an award from the Royal Canadian Lifesaving Society for saving a man’s life at Lakeside Beach. The presentation was from the Lieutenant Governor of PEI. Walter was a kind and generous man, under his sometimes “gruff” exterior. He valued and had a great work ethic; a high school and collegiate sports fan, history buff and reader. He was a constant champion of the underdog. Walter loved a good time and good cheer, found peace with sounds of the ocean and music in his PEI cottage. He loved his family and friends very much. Services will be held in Framingham, MA with burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a date to be determined. The family would like to extend deepest gratitude to the local firefighters, EMT’s, RCMP Ian Allen, Faye at Belvedere Funeral Home, friends and neighbors in the Morell and Lakeside community, especially Eldon, Patsy and Julie Jamieson. Remembrances can be prayers, deliberate kind acts and deeds or donations to Hospice Palliative Care Association of PEI or other causes close to your heart. www.belvederefh.com
