V. Douglas Lewis Victor Douglas Lewis, 80, a resident of Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Sunday, July 31, 2016 in the presence of his loving family. Born in Halifax on March 24, 1936, Doug and his younger siblings, Carole (late Don Mix) and Brian (Valerie), were raised in Moncton by their parents Ruth (Nugent) and Victor Lewis. As a young man, Doug’s talents in athletics lead to several distinctions in golf and badminton. His accolades include 3 Provincial Badminton titles, 2 NB-PEI Amateur Golf Championship titles, along with 5 appearances as a member of the NB-PEI Willingdon Cup team. Despite taking a back seat to golf and badminton, it was Doug’s love for curling which lead him to find the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy) Halfpenny, at the Beaver Curling Club. They were happily married for 44 years. Doug’s professional career was highlighted with his position as the Atlantic Regional Sales Manager with Hilroy. He also enjoyed the success of the family business, Lewis and Nugent Wholesale Co., where Doug worked alongside his parents and siblings as the Secretary-Treasurer. Later in his career, Doug served as the President of the North West Commercial Travelers Association. A talented musician, Doug was a member of the Greater Moncton Chorale and the First Baptist Church Choir. He brought joy to the lives of others with his talents as a vocalist and pianist. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; four children, David Lewis (Sheila), Brenda Moreno (Luis), Kathy LeBlanc (Stéphane), and Karen Lewis; five grandchildren, Sarah, Brett, Patrick, Emily Anne, and Nicholas. Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Service to Celebrate Doug’s Life will be held at First Baptist Church, Queen St. on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Sandy Sutherland officiating. Reception to follow the service.
