It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Bert, who left us on Monday, February 20, 2017, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour.
Born in Belgium on March 6th, 1950, Bert was the middle child of the late Gino and Caterina (Chicco) Cesaroni.
Bert moved with his family to Toronto in 1958, and to St. Margaret’s Village, Cape Breton with his wife and three children in 1981. Bert fought a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis and other obstacles but like his days before being diagnosed with MS at age 26, he fought the good fight. He often spoke stories of his healthier days, especially his time working as a bouncer in Toronto at Beverly Hills. He never backed down from anyone or anything and always spoke his mind before and after his diagnosis of MS. Bert was able to strike up a conversation with anyone, no matter if he knew them or not, and he enjoyed trying his luck at the casino or reeling in a fish. He also enjoyed watching his old westerns or listening to his favorite Eagles or Neil Diamond songs. He was very proud of the home he put a lot of work into for his wife and children upon moving to St. Margaret’s Village, and could often be seen taking in the great view. Bert will always be remembered for his realness, his will power, his strength, and his love for his entire family. He leaves behind his loving wife Elaine, who stood by his side through good and bad, his daughter Carolyn (Allan) and children Victoria, Cassandra, Catryna and Cameron, and his other daughter Cathy (Simon) and children Vanessa and William, and his son Shane (Patti) and child Vienna. Bert was very proud of and loved all his children, grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother Carlo, and five sisters; Anna (Steve), Gloria (Bob), Nadia, Mary, and Tella (Jim), whom he loved dearly and wished he lived closer to.
A celebration of Bert’s life, and burial of his cremated remains will be announced at a later date. Always in our memories and forever loved. Rest easy Bert, and God bless you.
