June 8, 1934 – August 11, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Elizabeth Smid (nee Elliott) of Cochrane, Alberta. Dorothy passed away at the Foothills Hospital on August 11, 2017 at the age of 83, with her family at her side.
Dorothy was the youngest child of Robert and Ivy Elliott. Born and raised in Shaunavon Saskatchewan, she left home at a young age and met her husband John while they were both working on cattle ranches in southern Alberta. They decided to call Calgary home and raised their family in the Hillhurst area. Dorothy moved to the Cochrane area after the death of her husband in 1981. As well as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she was a community supporter and tireless business woman running Artistic Flowers until her retirement at the age of 78.
She leaves to mourn her children Bob, Ivy (Howard), Kenneth, and Suzanne (Kevin), siblings Cecil (Joy) Elliott , Wilfred (Jean) Elliott, Muriel Johnston, ten grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her family was everything to her and she will be greatly missed.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Cochrane Legion (114 Fifth Ave, Cochrane, AB) on Thursday, August 17th at 2:00 pm. Please come to reminisce and share memories of our beloved Dorothy.
