Obituary Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Mary Theresa Devine passed away at the age of 100 at Providence Centre, Edmonton, on July 14, her 100th birthday. Sister Mary Theresa was born in New Westminster, B.C. in 1916 and entered the Sisters of Providence in 1940, going on to serve the people of western Canada as a teacher and parish worker, appreciated for her friendliness and kindness. Sister Mary Theresa’s loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence and many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Mary and her sisters Margaret, Mary, Catherine, Dorothy, Josephine, Patricia and Eileen and her brother Patrick. The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Mary Theresa by the nursing staff at Providence Centre and the messages of condolence received from friends and former coworkers. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome. Evening Prayer will be held at Providence Centre on Thursday July 21, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Providence Centre Chapel, 3005 – 119 Street, Edmonton, at 9:00 a.m. Friday July 22, 2016. Rev. Michael McCaffery will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Providence Sisters’ Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.
