Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Lorraine Mongeau passed away at the age of 87 at Providence Centre, Edmonton, on April 19. Sister Lorraine was born in Calgary in 1929 and entered the Sisters of Providence in 1948, going on to serve the people of western Canada as a teacher and in community service, appreciated for her friendliness and kindness. Sister Lorraine’s loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence and her relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents René and Aline; her sister Annette; and her priest brother Father Fernand. The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Lorraine by the nursing staff at Providence Centre and the messages of condolence received from friends and former coworkers. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
Evening Prayer will be held at Providence Centre on Sunday April 30 at 7:00 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Providence Centre Chapel, 3005 – 119 Street, Edmonton, at 9:00 a.m. Monday May 1, 2017. Reverend Michael McCaffery will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Providence Sisters’ Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.
