Obituary for Sigrid Anna Sommer
Sigrid made her transition from this world to the “other world” on November 21, 2017. Her husband Michel was at her side during her last moments on this earth plane, at the Civic Hospital’s ICU. Sigrid leaves behind many beloved people. Her husband and his family. Her sister Gisela in Germany. Her sons Peter and Michael and her step-daughter Julie-Sophie. Her grandson Christian, her great-grandsons Noah and Gabriel. Her daughters-in-law Claudia, Dale, Candice and Amanda. Her cherished colleagues at Canada Life. Many friends from Canada, U.S., Germany and many devoted parishioners. Sigrid worked as a pediatric nurse at the old General Hospital on Bruyère Street from 1957 to 1970. She then worked 31 years for Canada Life. She was the first female in her line of work and was “very successful at it…” Sigrid “absolutely loved” animals, they were a great part of her life. During her free-time Sigrid would read a lot and was greatly instrumental in starting the Spiritualist Church in Ottawa. She loved training students. She was the Pastor at different Halls for 6 years before settling at the Byron Ave. Church, where she was the Pastor for 15 years. Her main assistants at the Byron Church were Luan Pinto, Rev. Susan Guimond and her mother. The reason for her success in life: “Sigrid was pure and true…” Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Sigrid at the Community of Christ Church, 888 Byron Ave., Ottawa, on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:00a.m. A Reception will follow.
