Mooney, Shirley Jean
It is with sadness that the family of Shirley Jean (Doyle) Mooney announces her passing on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the age of 87.
Shirley is predeceased by her husband Dennis, her brother Arthur and her parents Percy Doyle and Clara (Gerber) Doyle. She is survived by her loving sons – Mark (Anne), Dean and Christopher JP (Kelly) – and grandchildren – Mackenzie, Hudson and Brigid.
Shirley was born in Chatham, Ontario and moved to Guelph with her parents in 1941. She met her husband Dennis here and married in 1955. They spent most of their life together in Guelph except for periods where they resided in Fergus, Midhurst and Elora.
Shirley was an active volunteer. She was a member of the CWL in Guelph (St. Joseph and Church of Our Lady), Fergus, Barrie and Elora. She was also a volunteer for the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, Humane Society (Guelph and Barrie), Guelph Horticultural Society, the Royal Botanical Gardens and Barrie Newcomers Club. She and Dennis were life members of the Guelph Historical Society and Shirley worked as a volunteer archivist for the Church of Our Lady, Homewood Sanitarium, St. Mary’s Church (Barrie) and the Wellington County Museum.
The family thanks the nurses and doctors at the Guelph General Hospital and Saint Joseph’s Health Care Centre for their compassionate care during her final week.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Shirley will take place at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 252 Dublin Street North, Guelph on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday December 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, 28 Norfolk Street, Guelph. Interment is to follow at Marymount Cemetery.
