With great sadness we announce that our loving mother, Sheila Ann Harrison (nee Bradley) passed away quietly on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 after a valiant and lengthy battle with breast cancer. She leaves to mourn her children, Steven (Jeannette), Lynda, Diane and Gregory, grandchildren Trevor and Sean, and sister Chloris Brown, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Ray Harrison, in 1992, as well as her sister, Roberta, and brother Jim. Born in the Ottawa area to James and Irene Bradley, Sheila grew up on the family farm on Greenbank Road in the Township of Nepean. The farm was expropriated and is now part of the Greenbelt in Ottawa. She attended Greenbank Public School, a one-room schoolhouse, and went on to Nepean High School, followed by a few years of clerical work in Ottawa where she met (at a Hallowe’en dance) and married Ken on New Year’s Eve 1955. Ken was transferred every few years by the Canadian Pacific Railway, so they spent a few years in Smiths Falls, ON, then moved to Farnham, QC, followed by Sherbrooke, QC — where Sheila earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bishop’s University — and finally Pointe Claire, QC. Sheila was a kind, softhearted and generous woman who always thought of others, particularly caring about those less fortunate than herself. She had a lifelong love of reading and animals of all kinds, with a special place in her heart for dogs, above all her beloved boxer, Amber. Although she professed to be shy, she loved conversation, so that often her friendly nature overcame that shyness and she would engage friends and strangers alike in pleasant banter. Sheila had a rich, broad sense of humour until the very end. So in lieu of flowers or charitable donations, hug your pet, read a good book or enjoy a laugh in her memory. She will be truly and deeply missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date The family is grateful to all those who provided care to Sheila, including her oncologist, Dr. Horace Laryea, and the West Island Palliative Care Residence.
