Ruth Agnes Brown Steeves – 1918-2016

Ruth Agnes Brown Steeves 1918-2016 Ruth Agnes Steeves (née Brown), in her ninety-eighth year, wife of the late Rev. Armand G.J. Steeves (2004) for exactly 62 years, of Moncton, N.B., attended by family and friends, passed away peacefully at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home on July 18, 2016. Born in Doaktown, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Gordon and late Leonie « Nonie » (née Bamford) Brown. She was a 1937 graduate of the Provincial Normal School (Teachers’ College), Fredericton, N.B. Ruth taught school in Lockstead and Doaktown (N.B.), Montague (P.E.I.), Grande-Ligne (P.Q.) and Magog (P.Q.). She was a Life Member of the United Baptist Missionary Union of the Atlantic Baptist Convention, a Life Member of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Society of Ontario and Quebec, a Dominion Life Member of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Society, and President Emeritus of the Lewisville Baptist Women’s Missionary Society. Ruth was a member of the Lewisville Baptist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed reading the Bible, following mission work, meeting all who passed her way, and visiting the sick and shut-ins. A woman of deep and steadfast faith, she loved to serve her Lord, and always remained ready to meet her Saviour face-to-face. Ruth will be deeply missed by her three children: daughters Sharon Estabrooks (Rev. David), Havelock, Ont. and Sandra Lowther (Rev. Hal), Moncton, N.B.; and her son, Garth (Milton Ingalls), Moncton, N.B. She will also be fondly remembered by grandsons Dale and Darryl Estabrooks and granddaughters Sacha Sabourin and Sarah Howland, as well as five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was pre-deceased (2010) by her sister Verna Lee (the late Victor). Special thanks is extended to the excellent staff at the Spencer Home for the outstanding care and compassion extended to Ruth throughout her nine-year residency there. Our deep appreciation is also extended to Sue Prosser, Ruth’s faithful caregiver and loving friend. A funeral service for Ruth will be held in the Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton (858-1995) at one o’clock on Friday afternoon, July 22. Visitation hours are from seven o’clock to nine o’clock on Thursday evening, July 21. Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
