Ronald John Postma, 55 died unexpectedly on July 5, 2016 at the cottage he loved on the shore of Lake Chandos. He is survived by the mother of his children, Heather Lynn Prowten Postma, sons, all teen-agers, Cameron of Toronto, Graeme of Burlington, and Bryn of Burlington, brothers Ted and Walter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his mother-in-law Linda Prowten and her husband Bert Mitchell. He was predeceased by his parents Romke and Ina Postma. His brother Jacob died on July 6, 2016. Ron’s parents and three older brothers immigrated in 1948 to Canada from Leeuwarden, Friesland, Nederland. Ron was born in Trenton, Ontario on August 7, 1960. Ron became a member of Ontario College of Trades in March 1991 and worked as an expert auto body mechanic at Aldershot Collision, Vaughn Collision, City Automotive, and Burlington Aro Motors. In 1998, he became certified at the University of Toronto in the teaching of Technology Studies and worked the remainder of his career teaching for the Halton Board of Education at Robert Bateman High School in Burlington, Ontario. As their teacher, his students won auto body repair awards at Provincial, National and International competitions. He was a technically gifted teacher and his students appreciated his teaching skills. Ron appeared physically dominating but was a gentle giant. He loved the lakeside cottage environment by building on the lakeshore, enjoying water surface sports, swimming and scuba diving. He enjoyed business and vacation travel. He and his family made frequent winter trips to Florida. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Sunday 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 123 Main Street East, Milton on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. with reception to follow at the church. Interment Burlington Memorial Gardens. For those who wish memorial donations to Halton Learning Foundation in Support of the High Skill Major in Autobody at Robert Bateman High School or Camp Ke-Mon-Oya c/o North Toronto Christian School, 255 Yorkland Blvd., Toronto, ON M2J 1S3 would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
