Robert Bob GlenCable – 1932 – 2016

Obituary for Robert « Bob » Cable
Robert Glen Cable was born on the Cable farm located in the Etomami District on June 15, 1932. He was the youngest of nine children born to George and Margaret Cable. He grew up with 5 brothers- Jack, Leonard, Walter, Cecil and Vernon and 3 sisters- Etta, Rea, and Betty. Growing up on the Cable Farm kept Bob busy assisting with farming chores and when he wasn’t doing that he was playing practical jokes or teasing his brothers and sisters. When Bob’s parents retired from farming Bob took over the operations of the family farm in Etomami. Bob married Jean Ashdown on Sept. 15, 1951. After 13 years of married bliss they had Valerie and 11 months later Wayne. Bob and Jean were happily married for 63 wonderful years. Bob’s main occupation was farming but he also dabbled in other jobs like working in the bush for Hoffus Logging, the Bay Redi Mix Cement Plant, or assisting Jean with custodial duties at the school in Hudson Bay. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and spent many hours watching them play sports. He loved watching first Wayne play hockey and then Jordan, Levi, and Jamison. A highlight for him was watching Sydney and Madi’s ringette games or hearing about Melissa’s cross-country running accomplishments. He passed on his love of hunting to his grandson’s Jordan and Levi. He was honoured to give Jordan his hunting gear this past Christmas. He called Jody his « special friend. » She was constantly helping dad and mom out. She was a constant source of medical knowledge and was always a phone call away to assist dad with cell phone glitches, sewing alterations, companionship and of course his very own personal paramedic. He treasured special visits from his nieces Nancy , Rosalee, Betty Ann, Linnea, and Verna. Nancy took special care of Uncle Bob visiting two or three times every week. He also was blessed to have incredible nurses in his life: Leslie Brooks, Renee Hrebeniuk, Carmen Mackie, Michelle Sprackman, and Cindy Strukoff. In 2007, Bob and Jean moved from their beloved farm into Hudson Bay to live with their son Wayne at his home in Hudson Bay. Bob enjoyed helping out by cooking meals, assisting with renovations of the house, or tinkering around the yard. Bob was the best « handy man » we knew. He could fix anything that broke often repairing it so it ran better than before. Bob battled cancer for 30 years enduring many surgeries, radiation treatments, and chemotherapy. He battled this monster with courage and stubbornness. We all admired his determination and faith. Through all of this he continued to lovingly care for his wife Jean so she could remain at home. Bob is survived by his son Wayne and his children Jordan, Melissa, and Levi and daughter Val(Don) and children Sydney, Madison, and Jamison. He was predeceased by his parents George and Margaret Cable and siblings Etta, John, Walter, Vernon, Cecil, Leonard, Rea,and Betty
