Rita Goodwin
Rita Goodwin, 96, of Moncton passed away peacefully at The
Moncton Hospital, on Friday April 7, 2017. Born in St. Francis
Harbour, NS, she was the daughter of the late John and Ethel (Diggins)
Kavanaugh.
Rita was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting and quilting in her
spare time. In her younger years, she taught oil painting
and sewing lessons at home and was a member of the Moncton Arts
Society and the CWL at St.
Augustine’s.
Rita will be sadly missed by her daughter Debbie Poirier of
Moncton; Paul Goodwin (Doris) of Moncton; grandchildren, Theresa
« Tammy » Poirier (Ron Stiles) and Joey Goodwin:
step-grandson, David Aubé (Amy) and his children, Brandon,
Dylan, Ella and Chloe Aubé; several nieces, nephews and
extended family members. Rita was the last surviving member
of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her
husband Calvin Goodwin (2004), sisters Mary and Alice; brothers,
Maurice, Pat and Jack Kavanaugh.
Visitation will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657
Mountain Road, (858-1995) Moncton on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Rita’s life will be
held at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church (340 Dominion
St. Moncton), on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Allison
Carroll presiding. Reception to follow the mass. Interment
will be held in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe, later in the
spring.
