Richard “Rick Martin Maze December 13 2017

Richard “Rick” Martin Maze. Brampton, Ontario. Predeceased by his parents Martin Joseph Maze and Elizabeth Katherine (nee Ortman) Maze.
We are heart-broken to announce that our beloved Rick left us on December 11, 2017. He had struggled valiantly to live and to be home again but it was not to be. Daughter Lesley and Grand-daughter Dana were by his side, with each holding one of his hands, as he passed.
Rick was the devoted and cherished husband of (Helen) Joy Maze, adored father of Lesley (Blaine Commandant) and Ian Maze. Loving Grandfather to Dana (Joe Astolfi), Rachel (Justin Galbraith) Kayla and Gary. Great-Grandfather of Livia and Step-Great-Poppa to Brooke.
Dear Brother to Joan (Peter Shenher) , Doug (Norma) and Ralph. Dear Brother-in-law of Kathleen (Cyril Corry) and Alice (David Jamison). Much loved Uncle of Martin (Barb), Michelle (Charlie), Amanda, Katie (Brian), Michael (Angela), Martin (Melanie), Elizabeth (Alec) , Alan (Sharon), Stephen (Sandra), Colin (Jackie), Ian (Lorraine), Colin, Cathy (Noel Fenning) and Great Uncle to all of their children. Rick will be sorely missed by his many, many cousins across Canada.
Rick met and married the love of his life Joy while serving in the Royal Canadian Navy and while stationed in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They would have celebrated 61 years of marriage on December 22nd. Moving from Northern Ireland to Nova Scotia to Northern Ireland and then to Ontario, Rick went where the work was. He and Joy started their family during this time and in 1965 Rick was posted to Germany by Litton Systems Canada to work with the RCAF. His assignment was for 6 months but lasted 7 ½ years. Rick and Joy made the most of their time overseas; when Rick wasn’t working , he and Joy and the kids went exploring. He would remain with that company for many years in different capacities, and would as a result, travel the world in his professional as well as his personal life. Rick and Joy returned to Ontario, Canada and built their forever home where they happily welcomed friends and family alike. They discovered boating in the late 70’s and Rick rekindled his love of sailing and the open water. Eventually, Rick changed his professional direction and worked with Navhouse, an Aerospace Navigation & Control Systems company, as their Technical Director.
Rick adored his family and extended family and was adored by them in return. Music was a passion that he enjoyed sharing with others. Rick loved a good debate on any subject, was an avid reader well versed in the classics and would often recite from same; he could tell a compelling story or joke and was quick-witted with an incredible sense of humour. He made friends wherever he went and revelled in the camaraderie of others and what they too had to offer. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many who knew him.
“His wings were ready but our hearts were not.”
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Friday December 15, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Eulogy follows at 2pm.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion.
