Richard Frank Dix
August 08, 1945 – February 16, 2017

Mr. Richard Frank Dix died peacefully at home on February 16th, 2017 at the age of 71 years. Richard was born on August 8th, 1945 in Montreal, Quebec to Olive Cooper. At the age of two he was adopted by Frances and Freda Dix. He graduated from Virdun High School in 1963 and served two years in the Royal Canadian Air Forces from April of 1963 to March of 1965. Richard worked as a telephone repair technician in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and Kamsack, Saskatchewan where he settled to raise his family. After many years in Kamsack, he moved to Saskatoon in 1998 where he worked for Sask-Tel until retirement in 2006. After retiring, he worked for two years at AJW Sports Cards and Memorabilia in Saskatoon. In 2009 he moved to Moosomin, Saskatchewan where he resided until his death. As a mature student, Richard studied at University of Saskatchewan, proudly earning 42 credits towards a commerce degree, while raising his children and working full time. He also ran a recycling business and partnered in a jewelry store and engraving business. He loved fishing, hunting and volunteering for various organizations, including Ducks Unlimited and Flyers Senior Hockey (where he earned his nickname “Krusty”). He was accomplished at home renovations and spent his retirement years renovating. He enjoyed collecting hockey memorabilia and watching hockey on T.V. Richard will be greatly missed by his wife Vanessa and his beloved dog Fawn, his sister Doreen (Jon) Harrington, sister Maureen (Dallas) Kraus, brother Bill (Brenda) Dix and by his adult children, Michael Deslongchamps, Shayna Deslongchamps, Beth Dix, Carolyn Dix, Laurie Dix and numerous grandchildren. He is predeceased in death by his birth mother Olive Cooper, parents Frances and Freda Dix and his sister Brenda Nickle. In honor of Richard’s adamant final wish, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. P.G. (Wessel) Roets and all of the staff at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin for their compassionate care and personal support during Richard’s final years. A special thank you to our dear friends Dennis, Pat, Murray and Jim. Your visits, support and kindness during his darkest days meant more than you know.
