Raymond E. Thorne
Raymond E. Thorne passed away peacefully at the Moncton City
Hospital on November 3, 2016 at the age of 85. Born in Sussex, NB on
April 19th, 1931, Ray was the son of the late
Austin and Mary (Carson) Thorne.
Ray graduated from Sussex Grammar School in 1948 and then
from the Sussex Commercial School in 1949, after which he began his
career in the automotive industry. He retired in 1991 after more than
36 years of service with General Motors of Canada, Ltd. In addition to
his role as office supervisor, Ray was involved in creating and
teaching training programs for GM truck dealership
personnel.
Ray’s first wife, Marion (Riedle) Thorne passed
away in 1983 after 21 years of marriage. He is survived by
his second wife, Carol (Stanley) Thorne to whom he was married for 22
years. He is also survived by three children from his first
marriage: Christopher (Nisalda) and his two daughters: Lindsay and
Jillian; Mark (Christa) and their children: Jordan, Zachary, Erin and
Tyler; Jayne (Kevin) Smith and their children: Sadie and Nash; by his
sister Loraine (Robert) Adams; and his sisters-in-law Lottie (Ira)
Thorne, Connie (Walter) Riedle, and Chris (Gary) Nelson; and his
brother-in-law Jim (Barb) Stanley; as well as a number of nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers: Vernon, Ira,
and Curtis; and a sister, Wilda Morrison.
Ray was a devoted husband and family man, and thoroughly
enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was so
proud of them, and always ready to boast about their
accomplishments. He also enjoyed travelling to Europe and
the States with his wife Carol; and, in his younger days, he loved
hunting and fishing, especially with his father. Ray was the
ultimate DIY handyman, whether it was working in his yard, doing
woodworking projects at home, or building various things for the
church and for Crandall University. He loved his Lord and
Saviour and was a faithful member of Hillside Baptist Church. Ray was
a tireless volunteer both within his church and in the wider local
Christian community, as well as being an active member of the Gideon
Association for 36 years.
