Phillip Blakeley

April 3, 1922 to May 26, 2008 Phil Blakeley, beloved husband of Isabel, passed away in Lethbridge on Monday, May 26, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Phil is survived by his wife Isabel, 3 children Richard (Liane) Blakeley, David (Kim) Blakeley and Judith (Chris) Meintzer; 6 grandchildren Heather Blakeley (Mike Star), Kathy Blakeley (Ryan Boyle), Jessica (Nick) Rymsza, Stephen (Nikky) Meintzer, Bryan (Ashley) Meintzer and Karen Meintzer; and brother Roy (Marlys) Blakeley. He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Lillian Blakeley; and sisters Grace Neubauer and Winifred Williamson. Phil was born to Roy and Lillian Blakeley in Canwood, Saskatchewan and was educated in Saskatoon. He graduated with his BSc from the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon). He then joined the army and trained in Sussex, NB and Vernon, BC. In 1945 he married Isabel in Saskatoon. They traveled by train to Victoria, BC where he was stationed. After the war Phil was employed at the Canadian Agriculture Research Station in Lethbridge after obtaining his MSc from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Phil was a charter member of McKillop United Church; was actively involved with the YMCA and science fairs; and enjoyed golf at the Lethbridge Country Club. A Celebration of Phil’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, June 2, 2008 at McKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 – 15 Ave South, Lethbridge with Reverend Terry Shillington and Reverend Cathy Coates officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
