Patrick Thomas Coyne, born in London, Ontario, March 30, 1950 passed away June 28, 2017, surrounded by his immediate family. Pat was a loving father, an adoring grandfather and wonderful brother. His enthusiasm for life impacted all those who knew him. He was adventurous, cycling from Scotland to Cyprus as a young man and enjoying many family scuba diving trips in the Caribbean.
Patrick’s excellence, and the distinction that he carried through his entire career, can be illustrated by looking at one of his very first jobs. Starting in the late 1960’s as a mail sorter in the Wiarton Post Office he quickly moved from the back room to the front desk. His personality came through as he dealt easily with and personally connected to all the people picking up their mail. His ability to form personal relationships with his colleagues and clients led to quick advancement in all his endeavors throughout his career.
Pat had a keen interest in science and with family in tow he attended the University of Waterloo obtaining his degree in Chemistry. No small feat while managing his young family amidst his academic studies. Graduating, and after a short stint in the mining industry as mill operator in northern Manitoba, he moved on to a job in the chemical processing field with Proctor and Gamble in Toronto where he was known for his quick thinking during the great toothpaste spill of 1977.
Always looking for new challenges, in 1979, Pat headed west to Edmonton where he became operator of the Penn West, Bevington Road Gas Plant that demonstrates his ability to change and understand complex chemical processes. It was from his base in Edmonton that he got his first big career step to Manager in charge of operations and expansion at the Tumbler Ridge, BC. gas processing plant. From here he moved on to Nova Corporation in the Calgary head office in the late 1980’s. He quickly climbed the executive ranks to become leader in the building of a new laboratory and implementing SAP computer technology.
Wanting to be closer to his family he moved to The Pas, MB in 2001 where he became a weatherman at the local airport. He remained there until 2006 when he returned again to Edmonton where he retired.
He is preceded in death by his father James Patrick Coyne and mother Iris Mary (Broom) Coyne. He is survived by his wife Judy (Mills) Coyne, daughter Jennifer Elizabeth (Coyne) Mouillierat and son-in-law Robert Mouillierat, son Sean James Patrick Coyne and daughter-in-law Bobbi (Breiter) Coyne, daughter Robin Suzanne Spence and grandchildren Kate-Lyn Elizabeth Mouillierat, Jordan Mitchell Thomas Mouillierat, Maddison Kendra Mouillierat, Zaira Ann Coyne, Finn Patrick Coyne and Brooklynn Anneka Spence and brothers John Christopher Coyne, Malcolm James Coyne, David Alexander Coyne, Robert Leslie Coyne, Paul Anthony Coyne, James Timothy Coyne and Michael Andrew Coyne.
