Patricia «Mary» Sachs, age 84, passed away at The Village Senior’s Community, Hanover, on July 22, 2017 due to complications from diabetes. Mary was born in Blind River, ON on September 29, 1932, the eldest of four children, to Reginald and Doris (nee Griffiths) Sear. The only daughter, Mary was an adventurous child who spent most of her time outdoors with her brothers; Reginald and Glynn, both deceased, and Ernie, residing in Queen Charlotte, B.C.
Mary was in her early twenties when she was swept off her feet at a dance in Kincardine by Ray Sachs, with whom she shared over sixty years of marriage before his death in 2013. Although she was a devoted wife and mother, Mary never lost her wanderlust and often spoke of adventures she would have embarked on if she’d had the chance. Mary explored many interests through correspondence courses and the arts, passing on her love of literature to her children and grandchildren.
Survived by children Susan (Kevin) Larson of Alberta, Bill (Katharine) Sachs of Listowel, Patricia Griffiths and Wayne Cannon of South River, Peter (Laurie) Sachs of St. Thomas, and her grandchildren Scott, Matthew, Christian, Nathaniel, Emily and Amelia.
To honour Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place, with a private inurnment to occur at a later date. Her children politely ask that memorial donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society in lieu of cards/flowers. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
