Olga Michaluk 20 février 1930 – 22 septembre 2016

Olga Michaluk
Olga died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home in Saskatoon on September 22, 2016.
She was born on February 20, 1930 in Rosetown, SK. Soon after the family moved to Saskatoon. She attended St. Mary’s School, Bedford Road Collegiate, and graduated from Business College in Saskatoon.
She was a woman of great faith. She was a life-long member of St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral and of the UCWL. She was one of the first members of the Charismatic Renewal, a member of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s Home, and a long-time member of the Auxiliary. She had great love for the Sisters of St. Joseph. She loved her Ukrainian Catholic heritage and Church. She spent countless hours at the church and hall, and was involved in the church choir, U.C.Y. and the many activities offered at the Avenue M hall during the days of her youth and adulthood.
Although Olga lived a committed single life, she was a great sister and a wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She worried about them and always wanted the best for them. She was extremely generous with her presents to the kids. They called her the raspberry and cream aunt. She treated many of her friends’ children as if they were her nieces and nephews. She was always Auntie Olga to them.
Even though she lived with only one lung since she was the age of 22, this did not stop her from being a very active person. She worked for the Federal Government in the Manpower division for over 40 years. She was the primary caregiver for dad and mom when they needed care. She travelled extensively, and was most fond of her visits to the Marion Shrines in Europe. She visited relatives in Ukraine. Olga enjoyed the Arts. She attended church services, plays, musicals, and the symphony with friends, who always drove her to these venues since she never ever drove in her lifetime. Always she was grateful for family and friends, and the life she had, and the resources she had which allowed her to accomplish all that she did.
Olga was predeceased by her father, Michael, (1963) and her mother, Mary (1990).
She will be remembered lovingly by her brother Ernie (Antoinette (Toots), and their children, Michael, Danny, John, and Lisa, Her sister Jean Hnatiuk, and her children, Daryl, Curtis, Jerry, Maria, and Robert, and her brother Bill and his children Michelle, Suzanne, and Danielle, and all of their families.
Prayers for Olga will be held at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27 and The Divine Liturgy will be sung at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. George, 214 Avenue M South at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 28 with celebrant Rt. Rev. Fr. Janko Kolosnjaji. Interment in Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery will follow.
We thank Sister Eugenia and the rest of the Sisters and staff, for the loving care they gave Olga. Through them she had a blessed, peaceful and holy death. In lieu of flowers you may send a donation to St. Joseph’s home.
