Noreen McNairn – 2016

McNairn, Noreen With sadness we share the passing of a remarkable woman, Noreen Jean McNairn (nee Philpott) on July 7, 2016. Predeceased by her husband Frank McNairn, her son John McNairn, brother David Philpott and sister Charmian Edwardes-Evans. She passed away in her home in Burlington with her daughters and dog by her side. She leaves behind her two daughters Judi McNairn and Susan King, her brother Peter and his wife Margaret. She was a proud grandmother of Rob, John, Scott and Brian McTaggart and Claire and Daniel King. Auntie Noreen will be missed by all her nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her friends in the ‘Mac Pack’ (graduating class ’58) and her Burlington Bridge partners of 50 years. Noreen was born in Toronto and grew up on Toronto Island. She attended School at Branksome Hall in Toronto. She went on to train as a nurse at McMaster University in Hamilton and was a dedicated V.O.N. nurse and later was Assistant Director of Home Care when she retired. Noreen was devoted to her Church, St. Christopher’s Anglican Church for 55 years. She was also a tireless volunteer for many organizations including The Royal Botanical Gardens, The Burlington Historical Society, IDEA Burlington and Ubuntu. An environmentalist since the ‘60’s and a founding member of Greening Sacred Spaces, she helped many people become aware of our Earth. We would like to thank the care-giving team of Dr. Matthew Robinson, Dr. Rosalyn Jeurgens, and Carrie, Marlon and Charlene of St. Elizbeth’s Nursing. Noreen never let anything stop her and she earned the nicknames Energizer Bunny and Warrior Woman. Her commitment to her family and her community is unforgettable. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, 662 Guelph Line, Burlington, on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11:30 am. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Christopher’s Anglican Church or the Royal Botanical Gardens would be sincerely appreciated by the family. (Arrangements entrusted to SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, BURLINGTON 905-632-3333).
