Nadeya was born in Canora, SK on February 9, 1926. She passed away peacefully on January 27, 2017 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Nadeya (nee Melnychuk) was married to Nicholas, August 9, 1945 in Edmonton.
Nadeya is survived by three sons; Father Peter (Cynthia) of Missouri, Joseph (Dianne) of Edmonton and Paul (Victoria) of California; nine grandchildren, Theodore, Phillip (Charlotte), Lileah (Mark), Monica (Jared), Gabriel (Amy), Anastasia, Timothy (fiancée Andrea), Sarah (Ofer) and Jeffrey (Nicole); sisters-in-law, Stella Stefure, Irene Ochotta, Ollie McEvoy, Natalka Melnychuk and June Melnychuk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her parents, Very Reverend Peter and Justine Melnychuk; brothers, Andrew (Mary), Bohdan, Terry and Bill; sisters, Evangeline, Vera and Florence; in-laws, Michael and Sophie Bodnar; and Stephen Shandro; sisters-in-law, Anne, Jennie, Rose and Marie; brothers-in-law, John, Joseph, Martin, Nick, Tony and Roy.
Prayer Service Monday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 10951 – 107 Street, Edmonton.
Funeral Service Tuesday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. Reverend Father Cornell Zubritsky and Very Reverend Peter Bodnar officiating with interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Nadeya asked that donations be made to St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 10951 – 107 Street, Edmonton, AB T5H 2Z5 or the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, 910 Spadina Crescent East, Saskatoon, SK S7K 3H5 or Consistory of UOCC, 9 St. John’s Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2W 1G8.
