Murray Frederick George Cooper, 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday November 15, 2016 at Oceanview Continuing Care in Eastern Passage.
He was born September 15th, 1924 in Halifax, the son of George and Geraldine Cooper.
He is survived by his daughter Nadine Cooper Mont, daughter in law Jacquie Cooper; grandchildren, Christopher (Bobbi Jo) Mont, Andrew Mont (Natasha), Matthew (Melody) Cameron and Geoffrey (Jessica) Cameron and great grandchildren, Cooper, Oliver, Christopher, Ben, Jack and Alex. He is also survived by his brothers, Gerald, Donald, Malcolm, and Stewart. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Alice, his son David, his son in law Stephen Mont and his sister Joan Halliday.
In his younger years, he was active in canoeing, tennis, photography and the army reserves. He sang in his church choir and played the harmonica and was also a ham radio operator. He joined Maritime Telephone and Telegraph at 17 and worked there until his retirement and continued to be actively involved with the Telephone Pioneers for many more years. After he retired, he and Alice joined the Avon Valley Golf Club where they played for many years. He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather. He had a wonderfully optimistic view of life which he instilled in both of his children.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Monday November 21, 2016 at St. John’s Westphal, Main St Dartmouth, Rev. David Puxley officiating with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Hearing Foundation of Canada.
