Milton A. Palmer
Milton A. Palmer, 100, of Monarch Hall, Riverview and
formerly of Lorentz Dr., and Alma St., Moncton, passed away peacefully
at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, February 3, 2017.
Born in Freeland, PEI, he was the son of the late George P.
and Dora (Coughlin) Palmer. Milton was employed with the Bank of Nova
Scotia and served at several branches of the Bank in the Maritime
Provinces. At the time of his retirement in 1977, he was manager of
the St. George St. branch in Moncton. During WWII, he served in the
Armed Forces for five years.
Milton was a member and elder of St. John’s United
Church, also a member of Keith Masonic Lodge #23 F. & A.M.,
Moncton Lodge of Perfection, Britton Chapter Rose Croix, New Brunswick
Sovereign Consistory, Honorary Inspector General 33˚ of the
Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, a member of the Royal Order of
Scotland, the Luxor Temple of New Brunswick, the Moncton Shriners
Club, and Frank H. Tingley Chapter #5 Order of the Eastern Star. He
was active in community affairs, having served on the Board of the
Moncton Housing Authority for 25 years, and for a number of years, was
actively involved with the United Way, Salvation Army, V.O.N. and the
Drew Nursing Home.
Milton is survived by his grandchildren, Derrick and Mark
Palmer; nieces, Beverley, Linda and Leslie; and nephew,
Bruce.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife,
Lena A. (Patterson) Palmer (June 2002) and son, David G. Palmer (March
2005).
Visitation will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657
Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday, February 9, 2017, from
2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Keith Lodge #23 F. & A.M.
will hold a Masonic service at 6:30 pm followed immediately by an
Eastern Star service at 6:45 pm.
A service to celebrate and honor Milton’s life will
be held from St. John’s United Church (75 Alma St.) on
Friday, February 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm with The Rev. Aaron Billard
officiating. Reception will be held following the service. Interment
to be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Freeland
Lot X1, PEI, in the spring.
No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, donations to St.
John’s United Church, Friends of the Moncton Hospital or a
memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the
