Michael R. MacKinnon 1935-2016 Michael (Mike) MacKinnon of Riverview passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital. Born in Victoria, BC, he was the son of the late Richard and Gwendolyn (Wallace) MacKinnon. Mike retired as a Warrant Officer from the Canadian Armed Forces after 30 years of service, followed by a twelve-year career with the Department of Transportation for the Province of New Brunswick. He loved to travel. Some of his fondest memories were of his journeys throughout North America and Europe. Family meant everything to him and he always looked forward to family time, whether it be Christmas, summers at Caissie Cape in years past, or large gatherings with family and friends on either coast or in Germany. An avid learner, Mike was always reading books on the World Wars and space expeditions. He greatly enjoyed watching television with his wife, viewing programs such as The Chew, nature documentaries and movies. Never one to sit still, Mike could always be found in the backyard, repairing items and tending to his beautiful, expansive garden. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Katherine; children: Michael, Karen (Jamie Burris), Tim (Kelly) all of Riverview, Sandy of Burnaby, BC, Lorraine Winchester of New Westminster, BC, Robert (Jo Kollerwirth) of Munich, Germany; grandchildren: Michael (Paula Hutchison), Melissa (Roger Parker), Rachel (Brandon O’Keefe), Mitchel Harris, Cynthia Buchanan (Jim), Christine Best (Ben), James Burris (Laura), Riley (Christian Ryan), Devon, Christopher (Samantha Ables), Patrick, Erin Winchester (Lane Fellardeau), Dana Winchester; great-grandchildren: Charlie MacKinnon, Lily Parker, Logan Buchanan, Alexis Buchanan, Isaac Best, Zoe Best, Eli Best, Oliver Best and Tobias Burris; brother, Bill MacKinnon (Paddi) of Sechelt, BC; brother-in-law Linton Worrall (Etta) of Miramichi, and sister-in-law Juliette Worrall (late Sonny) of Oromocto; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by a sister, Alice, and brothers George and Kenneth Phillips. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff of 3E and the palliative care unit at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital. Your genuine care and concern for Mike did not go unnoticed.
