Melvin Alvin Bartlett

Melvin Alvin Bartlett passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at his home in Stanley surrounded by his family. Born February 23, 1942 in Doaktown, NB, he was the son of the late Alvin and Bertha (Cornish) Bartlett.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gladys (Campbell); two children, Mary Turnbull (Darrell) of Lansdowne, NB, Michael Bartlett (Jeanne) of Nashwaak Bridge, NB; four grandchildren, Eryn Turnbull (Dale) of Peel, NB, Josh Turnbull (Jillian) of Oakland, NB, Melanie Bartlett (Jason) of Stanley, NB and Alison Bartlett (Josh) of Enfield, NS; four great grandchildren, Evan, Leah, Carley and Owen. He was predeceased by his brother, Winston and survived by his sister, Bonnie Hurley (Richard).
Melvin was a bricklayer by trade for 55 years, having spent most of his time with Maritime Bricklayers. He loved to travel throughout the Atlantic provinces. He

knew every back road and major highway and street. Melvin had a strong work
ethic throughout his life. He worked on many academic buildings at the University
of NB, Fredericton Campus; churches and businesses throughout the Fredericton
Area. One of his working highlights was placing the cross on the top of Christ
Church Cathedral and crafting the Cairn for Scotch Settlement. Melvin was also the
Volunteer Fire Chief for many years in Stanley. He was a member of St. Patrick’s
Parish Council and the Bereavement Team and delivered Meals on Wheels. Melvin
loved boxing, baseball (especially the Blue Jays) and travelling around the province
to watch his grandchildren play basketball. He was an avid reader with an
exceptional memory for facts and dates of NB history.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 1-3 pm. A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Anthony’s Parish on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 5 pm with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Cleveland, Alcide Gaudet, Tony Dunphy, Wayne Cleveland, Dale Shaw, Darrell Turnbull, Jason Armstrong, Josh MacKay, Josh Turnbull and Michael Bartlett. The family would like to send a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses who cared for Melvin, especially Extra Mural Nurses, Sherri, Melisa and Nanette for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice and would be appreciated by the family.
