Mary Ross August 2, 1929 – January 12, 2016

ROSS, Mary August 2, 1929- January 12, 2016 Surrounded by loving family and wonderful caregivers, Mary Ross (née Kealey) passed away peacefully on January 12, 2016 in Pierrefonds at the age of 86. Pre-deceased by her devoted husband Milton Ross, she will be greatly missed by her daughters Shari Anne (Robert Viger), Susan Martha (Robert Tombs) and Linda Lee (Joe Miholic), as well as her grandchildren Samantha and Corey Viger, Frankie Miholic, and step-grand-daughters Sylvia and Marissa Tombs, and her niece Gloria Gifford. The family would like to express its great appreciation for the generous care provided by the staff and volunteers at the Centre Vigi Pierrefonds. Born to John Howard Kealey (Ottawa Roughriders) and Anne Geraldine Lanthier, both of Ottawa, Mary grew up with her sister Lois Anne and brother John (Jay), who both predeceased her, in Sandy Hill, near the ‘Kealey Waters’ mineral and soda water bottling factory. After moving to Old Ottawa South and graduating from the Rideau Street Convent, she worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, until marrying and starting a family. Following Milton’s move to Air Canada’s new headquarters in Montreal, they lived in Lasalle, Roxboro and finally Pierrefonds. Mary enjoyed life, and her easy style of talking concealed a wry sense of humour; she was always a good sport and loved to laugh. She loved to cook, sew and garden, to play bridge, swim and dance, to read and to travel. She was warm and affectionate and had a great capacity for friendship, and formed many lifelong bonds with school friends, colleagues and neighbours. She taught her girls kindness, generosity and tolerance. She was a devout Roman Catholic and a longtime member of the Catholic Woman’s League, volunteering in different capacities over the years. Living up to her namesake, she stood for passion, enthusiasm and unconditional love of her family. A memorial service will be held Saturday January 16, 2016 at 11 am at St. Edward the Confessor Mission at 98 Aurora Avenue in Pointe Claire, Quebec H9R 3G7. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
