Marvin Michael Joseph Cooney
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Marvin Cooney. Marvin passed away December 25, 2017 at Luther Care Special Care Home at the age of 86.
Marvin was born to Frank and Leona (nee Campbell) Cooney September 30, 1931 at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he loved spending time with his family.
Marvin attended St. Paul’s and St. Joseph’s Elementary School and Nutana Collegiate. Marvin took many classes through La Salle University and continuing education in many other areas. Dale Carnegie was his specialty and he instructed the course for a period of time.
As a student he worked for Sterling Hardware and Ashdowns. He was employed with MSI for 38 years. Marvin was active in many organizations; Knights of Columbus, Nutana Kiwanis, President of Catholic Family Services for six years, and numerous other work related boards throughout Canada and the United States.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Madeline (Witt) married in 1961; son Vernon (Shelby), son Al; daughter Kathy-lyn (Doug) Sinclair; grandchildren Sarah (Stuart) Cooney-Thomson, Laura (Andrew) Cooney-Wallace, Jordan (Colleen) Barry, Roan (Aurora), Kayle (Nicolette), Tait (Kate), Kyle, special grandson Ron Omara, and four great grandchildren; brother Murray (Lynda) Cooney; sister-in-law Doreen (Dave) Novecosky; and special family friend Doris White. We will miss his gentle faithful spirit.
Predeceased by his parents Frank and Leona (Campbell) Cooney; brothers Laverne (Berdeen), Fernley (Doreen); sisters Lorraine (Jack) Schumacher, and Bernadette (Don) Armstrong.
Thank you to Dr. Richard Baltzan and Dr. Brian Martens and administration assistant Dorothy for many years of care for Marvin. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Luther Special Care Home for the excellent care they provided for him while a resident there.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church (1920 Munroe Avenue) on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Rite of Committal of Marvin’s cremated remains in St. John’s Columbarium will follow.
