Marie Jean Cassidy
1920-2016
Marie Jean Cassidy (nee Hall), formerly of Sussex, N B,
passed away peacefully in Fredericton, September 27, 2016, at the age
of 96. Born in South Branch, N B, she was the daughter of the late
Calvin and Allie (Walters) Hall. She was predeceased by her beloved
husband, Murray, in 1974, son, Richard in 2013, her infant daughter,
and seven of her siblings.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Orpha Phippen
of Moncton; daughters, Carole (Garth) Christie of Fredericton and
Janice (Doug) Meeking of Calgary and daughter-in-law, Jean Cassidy of
Arnprior. She was the proud Grammie to Steven (Shiona) Christie and
Kevin (Laura) Christie of Fredericton, Kelly (Pat) Bradley of Halifax,
Heather (Shaun) Cotnam of Petawawa, Alan (Ali) Cassidy of Saskatoon,
Susan (Paul) Meeking Corrente of Eatonville, NJ, and Dan (Melanie)
Meeking of Ottawa. In addition she was the beloved GG Marie
to sixteen great grandchildren. She will also be greatly missed by the
loving Richard and Ellen Sullivan family, who were her friends and
neighbours for over 30 years.
Marie graduated from Sussex High School in 1936 and then the
Modern Business College in Saint John. Before her marriage, in 1940,
she was the secretary and bookkeeper at Bustin’s Furniture
in Saint John. Marie and Murray raised their family in Fredericton,
Truro and Sussex, where they established Cassidy Building Materials
Ltd. in 1961. Marie was a long time active member in the Sussex United
Baptist Church, where she was treasurer for 25 years. After
her husband’s untimely death, she worked for Dr. Robert Bartlett and
also Cunningham’s Ltd in Sussex. She moved to Parkland, Shannex in
Fredericton in 2010.
Marie will be interred with her dear Murray at Riverbank
Cemetery. A family memorial gathering will be held at a
later date. For those who wish, donations in memory of Marie
can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
