Obituary Overview
Marie D. Paris
Marie D. Paris – 93 It is with broken hearts we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother and grandmother on November 16th 2017 at her daughter’s home in Halifax. Marie died of a broken heart, having lost her husband of 66 years, Art, 6 months ago.
Born on March 30, 1924 in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Robert Dauphinee and Alice Burke. Marie grew up in Halifax. She met the love of her life, Art, on a blind date in 1951 and they married 3 months later.
Marie was a people person. Having worked at the Halifax Infirmary, Cue & Cushion, Capitol Theatre, Garden View Restaurant (just to name a few), the most memorable was her time spent working at the Jubilee Boat Club where she made lifelong friends and made so many memories that she still spoke of until the end of her days. In her later years she took on another task – working for the Halifax Herald until 2003.
Marie spent over 60 years living on Beech Street, where she was affectionately referred to as the Mayor of Beech Street. Many days and evenings were spent with Art on the veranda, talking with neighbors and people watching.
She loved people and socializing more than anything else. In her younger years, she loved to jive and carried that love into her 80s. Hours spent laughing, talking on the phone, playing cards and BINGO at St Agnes Church, and many nights spent at the Casino with Art, where she was treated like family and made many great friends. Marie and Art could be found every Sunday during the summer season at the Public Gardens taking in the band concerts. She genuinely cared about everyone, and everyone loved her. She had a quick wit, was full of energy, and a light in everyone’s day. She will be missed so much by so many but we know that she is finally at peace and with Art again.
Marie is survived by her daughters Judy (Bob) Powers and Donna (Gary) Keddy; grandchildren Terri (Jason), Jennifer, Kyle (Courtney), Jeff (Lindsay), Jason, Kevin (Sarah) and Kelly; great grandchildren Cayden and Cooper; “adopted daughter” Debbie, caregiver (better known as “Susie” or “my girl”) Sonya; sister Barbara, sisters-in-law Jean and Joyce; many nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her husband and soul mate of 66 years Art (May 2017); her parents; brother George; sister Marlene; brothers-in-law Vincent, Bob and Alec and sisters-in-law Evelyn and Lorena.
Special thanks to Dr. Craig St Peters and EHS. Also to Marie’s amazing neighbours Linda & Ron, Vera & Hugo, Carol, and Liz & Adrian for always taking time to visit or check in.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 21 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, November 22 at 2pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Souls Harbour Rescue Mission or SPCA.
