1932-2017
Marie Christiane Patel of Saint John, New Brunswick, wife of
the late Ismail Patel, passed away on April
4th, 2017 at Rocmaura Nursing
Home. Born in Paris, France, on July 25, 1932,
she married Ismail in London, England and
they immigrated to Canada in 1966 with their three
children.
As well as teaching French at UNBSJ, Marie Christiane spent
many years instructing catechism at St Pius X. Known for her
generosity and lively conversation, she was an avid bridge player,
rescuer of cats, superb hostess and a beloved wife, mother and
grandmama.
Marie Christiane is survived by her two daughters, Nathalie
Patel of Vancouver, and Rebecca Patel of Saint John, and three
grandchildren, Sophia, David and Soraya. She is also survived by
sister-in-law, Ayesha Patel. She was predeceased by her son, David, in
1984.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s
Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB
(634-7424). By request there will be no public visitation. A funeral
liturgy will be celebrated from St. Plus X Church, Somerset Street, on
Saturday, April 15th at 11 am, with a reception to follow. Donations
to Romero House, ca-r-ma.org, the Saint John SPCA-Animal Rescue or any
charity of choice may be made in memory of Marie
