Margaret Mary Sheila Dobson
1937-2016
DOBSON (O’Neil), Margaret- April 28, 1937
– September 4, 2016. It is with deep sadness that we
announce the passing of Margaret Dobson, age 79 of Port Hawkesbury, on
Sunday, September 4, 2016, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, never complaining
and keeping a brave and cheerful outlook.
Born in Bathurst, NB, she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah
« Jerry » and Elizabeth (Smith) O’Neil. Margaret
graduated from Teacher’s College and began her career in
Bathurst before moving to Port Hawkesbury in 1961, where she taught
for 25 years before retirement.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 57 years,
Hubert; sons, Roy, Lake Ainslie; Jack (Nadine), Calgary; daughter,
Beth (Lee) Young, Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, John, Matthew, Kelly
and Sandy, whom she adored and cherished and her furry companion,
Katie. She is also survived by brothers, Gerald (Doreen), Mill Bay,
BC; Perley (Anne), Ottawa; as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Margaret loved spending time with her family and friends at
their summer homes in Lake Ainslie and Bathurst. Especially the summer
months when her grandchildren joined them. She also loved a good game
of cards, betting on hockey games with family members and a good
sweet, especially chocolate. The family would like to thank the
Doctors, Nurses and Lab Collectors at Antigonish and Strait Richmond
Hospital for their kindness and care.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m.
Thursday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with
Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s
choice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis
Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be
