Margaret Josephine Michaud
1918-2016
Margaret Michaud died peacefully on September 23rd, 2016 at
Windsor Court. Predeceased by her husband Joseph Michaud and her
brothers and sisters, Mary MacLean (Allister), Patricia White, Joseph
(Gilberte) White, Patrick (Kaye) White, Theresa White, James (Anna)
White, Josephine White.
Margaret was born in Goshen in 1918 to James and Margaret
(Mellon) White. The second in a large family, Margaret was often the
driving force behind family activities and
celebrations.
At an early age, she moved to Saint John, the city she loved,
where she began her 37 year career with NB Tel as a Telephone
Operator. She took great pride in her work, and during the
war spent many hours connecting phone calls between servicemen and
their loved ones so they could say goodbye before departing for the
war. She had great skills and a tremendous work ethic, and advanced
through her career to supervisory positions and eventually to
Assistant Chief Operator. She was also awarded the NB Tel
Pioneer Certificate for her work with the industry-based volunteer
organization.
Saint John is also where she met and married her husband,
Joe. Their devotion to each other over their 51 years of marriage was
nothing short of inspiring. Together, they opened their home to many
gatherings of friends and family, welcoming you whether you were
coming to stay for a meal, a week, or a year. Avid
travelers, they also enjoyed golf and playing bridge with
friends. As Joe’s health declined in his later
years, she cared for him lovingly and tirelessly.
Margaret was a woman of deep faith, a Life Member of the
Catholic Women’s League and longtime member of St.
Dunstan’s Parish in Fredericton, where she lived in later
years. She was devoted to the less fortunate and offered help wherever
she could. In the winter, she always carried mittens that she had knit
so she could give them to children she saw who had
none.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Barbara Toner
(Fredericton), her nephew, Patrick White, who was
like a son to Margaret and Joe, beloved nieces and nephews,
Janet Neurohr, Joanne Bachelor (Ottawa), Angela Finley (Maple Ridge,
BC), Barbara Sheldrick (Ottawa), Jim White (Toronto),
Michelle Edmonds (Hamilton), Dr. Margaret White (Ottawa), Patrick
White (Hamilton), Anne Marie Alexander (Sussex Corner), John White
(Sussex), Susanne White (Fredericton) Karen McKay (Toronto), Kevin
White (Denver), Dr. Barry White (Edmonton), Catherine McCain
(Fredericton), Rick Toner (Fredericton), Neil Toner (Fredericton),
Kate Burns (Fredericton), Judy Yuen (Ottawa), Bill Toner (Grand Bay),
and Ann Bentley (St. George), as well as many great nieces and nephews
who were fortunate to know her love and attention.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Tom Barry
and all the Windsor Court Staff for their excellent and compassionate
care.
