Hamel, Marcel Leonard – With heavy hearts the family announces the death of Mr Marcel Hamel of Temagami at the age of 78 years. Mr Hamel passed away peacefully at Temiskaming Hospital in New Liskeard on Sunday May 21, 2017 with his loving family by his side.
Mr Hamel was born April 17, 1939 in Hagar to the late Gilbert Hamel and to the late Lina Tetreault. He was a faithful and dedicated member of St-Elizabeth Catholic Church. During the Church construction he dedicated much of his time to whatever task needed to be tended too. Mr Hamel was a long time truck driver for the former Sherman Mine. He loved his community of Temagami and he will be sorely missed by all those lucky enough to have crossed his path.
Predeceased by his parents; his wife Patricia Hamel (2014); his son William Hamel; his grandson Robbie Mackey and by his sister-in-law Reta Laferiere. Mr Hamel is survived by his daughter Linda (late Ian) Matheson; cherished grandfather of Stevie, Lee-Anne; great-grandfather of Thiago and Isabella. Also surviving is his brother Paul and his wife M.J Hamel; his sisters Irene and her husband Ivan Rochon and Marie and her husband Terry Smart; nieces and nephews Leah, Rene, Annette, Danielle and Mike. Mr Hamel also leaves behind his very good friends Jim and Sue Blais as well as many extended family members.
The Hamel family will welcome friends at St-Elizabeth Catholic Church, Temagami, on Thursday May 25, 2017 beginning at 11:00am. The memorial mass will follow in the Church at 12 noon. Father Tony Man-Son-Hing officiating. Interment will follow at the Whispering Pines Cemetery with his wife Patricia and their son William.
