Mamfredis Irene (née Yiassemi) – 2017

1937-2017. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our much loved mother and yayaka, Irene (Rena). She died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday April 16, 2017. Irene was a devoted wife to Demetrios (Jimmy) for 58 years and was his primary care-giver for the last years of his life. She was very proud of her daughters, Maria and Vouli and of her grand-daughter, Maytar. She loved and was loved by her son-in-law Van (Maria) and her daughter-in-law Isabelle (Vouli). She was inseparable from her poodle, Jazzie.
She will be missed by friends and family around the world. Irene was talented, curious, funny and she could charm the pants off you. She was born in Athens, Greece and immigrated with her family to Montreal in 1967. Among her numerous accomplishments and talents, our mom was a painter, a weaver, a gifted gardener, an excellent cook, a knitter, an avid book-reader, a budding spinner (wool, not wheels), physically active (t’ai chi, aqua-fitness, walking), a pretty good back-gammon player, and the maker of the best Greek-coffee in the universe. Our lives feel a bit too empty without you, mom, but we will fill them again with your memory and love. Say hi to dad. The family wishes to thank the staff of the 9th floor ICU at the Montreal General Hospital for their kind care, respect and support.
Funeral service will take place at 11 am, Wednesday, April 26th, 2017 at the Greek Orthodox Church, 20 boul. Brunswick, DDO. In lieu of flowers the family asks that well-wishers perform a random act of kindness in Irene’s memory. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Voluntas (514-695-7979, www.voluntas.ca)
