Richard « Digger » Carlyle MacEwan- 87, Falmouth, died November 26, at The Windsor Elms Village.
Born in Westville, he was the son of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Joudrey).
As a teenager, Digger became interested in the world of boxing. This sport took him to various parts of Ontario, with several matches leading into his 20s. Digger’s career in law enforcement began at the young age of 19 in Westville, where he became one of the youngest Chiefs of Police in Canada. He then went on to work for CNR Police where he stayed until his retirement. During these years he worked in many parts of the province, as well as Newfoundland and New Brunswick. Upon retirement, Digger and his wife, Doreen, moved to Amherst. He spent his time golfing, relaxing at the family cottage and spending time with his beloved family. Anyone who knew Digger would remember his quick wit, love of a good prank and making others laugh. He was a kind and loving man whose family always came first.
Surviving are daughters Lori Metzler (Todd), Dartmouth and Sharon Gates, Truro; grandaughter Kim Tanner (Kathleen), Bedford; sisters June Thompson, Trixie Keough and special sister-in-laws Shirley MacEwan and Marg Chittick; brothers Nelson, Elwood and Mike (Judy). Digger also has many special nieces and nephews, too many to name.
