Louis V. “Louie” Reashore, 81
Alder Point
It is with broken hearts and great sorrow, we, the family of Louie, regretfully announce his passing on Friday, September 30, 2016 at home.
Born in Alder Point on April 7, 1935, he was the son of the late George and Evelyn (Boutilier) Reashore.
Early in his career Louie was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces (1st Battalion Black Watch) where he was stationed at Camp Gagetown, Camp Aldershot and all over Europe. During this time, he met the love of his life Ann (Sheffield) Reashore at the North Sydney County Exhibition. He was the proud owner of Reashore’s Texaco in Port Hastings where he spent many years towing everything from small cars to tractor trailers with his faithful companion “Lucky” by his side.
In his retirement years Louie enjoyed planting a huge vegetable garden and sharing his “masterpieces” with all his friends and neighbours. Louie was a jack of all trades and we would always find him in the yard or garage fixing vehicles for all his friends and neighbours. In the evenings he enjoyed meeting “the gang” at Tim Hortons and then stop in the Blue Mist.
Louie is survived by his loving wife Ann of 59 years, two daughters Bonnie Reashore (Brian), Fort McMurray and Nancy Devoe (Donnie) at home. He was very proud of his grandchildren John MacMullin (Marlyce), Trevor MacMullin, Mandy Walsh (Jason) and Donald Devoe (Jose). The greatest joy of his life were his great-grandchildren, J.T. , Morgan, Mya and Ava MacMullin and Cali Walsh. He also leaves behind his sisters, Doreen, Lois, and Louise, his brother Wilson, sister-in-law Rose Halliwell, along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Louie was predeceased by brothers Frank and Henry, and two nieces.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joan Salah for the great care and compassion she gave to Louie and his family.
A special thank you to his son-in-law Donnie, who was always by his side.
Visitation for the late Louie Reashore will be held Monday, October, 3, 2016 from 6- 9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A Funeral mass to celebrate Louie’s life will be held on Tuesday October, 4, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Louie’s memory may be made to the SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.
